Pinterest Party #3 : bachelorette card and bling

Pinterest follow through # 3: bachelorette card and bling
When I came across this quote on Pinterest I pinned it to 'my sister's wedding' board. It's a bit of an inside joke between us that I'm not going to explain here. I was pleasantly surprised to click on the attached website to find out that it's a card. Better late than never. It definitely arrived the day after her big bash. Oops!

My idea was to add these cute bling ice cubes to my sister's and the bridal party's champagne as we were getting ready. Not only did I forget to get them out of the freezer, once I remembered (the next day) they were close to impossible to get out! Not worth the time.

Pinterest Party #2: asparagus

Pinterest follow through #2 : The best way to make asparagus.
Quoted from a previous pinner, "The absolute best way to cook asparagus, and SO SIMPLE! Season with olive oil, salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese; bake 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes."

I know this isn't rocket science and I'm sure many of you are laughing at me, but I need baby steps when it comes to cooking. Thanks to Pinterest, I am inspired to continue to learn.

My overall opinion: The previous pinner nailed it. It is the easiest and best way to cook asparagus in my opinion too. I always buy the thinnest asparagus in the store b/c that's Michael's preference. I also have to admit that I probably use way too much parmesan cheese. Boy, is this vegetable our current favorite on our dinner table! I know what you're thinking...asparagus pee, which if you didn't know, is hereditary! Not everyone who is reading this knows what I'm talking about or has experienced the smell. Who knew?

Pinterest Party Thursday #1

Pinterest- oh how I have a love/hate relationship with you. I am one of those members who have way too many boards, way too many pins, and not enough follow through with the great ideas I find.

This is my attempt to change all that. Every Thursday (only because today's Thursday) my goal is to follow through with one pin and share it. This can be as simple as ordering something I find, trying a new recipe, a teacher tip or even starting to become a bit craftier and organized around the here.

Pinterest follow through #1: DIY crepe paper lanterns and display.
These were made for my sister's bachelorette party. It was a good thing all the bride-to-be wanted to do the day of her party was sit around and relax because these took FOREVER to make!
They made the perfect entrance into the party as well as a cute backdrop for pictures, especially when the bride-to-be was opening her gifts.
What can I say? The balls were a hit!

I found the ideas from these original pins: Modern Crepe Paper Lanterns DIY, and decoration idea

heart craft

Thanks to Pinterest and Moorea Seal, I stumbled across this adorable way to spread kindness and compassion. She made this inexpensive gift for her father's birthday. After sewing the hearts, she hid them and told him every time he finds one, he will hopefully think of her and how much she loves him. Talk about a tear jerker and a gift that keeps on giving. She presented the gift with a mason jar (who doesn't love mason jars?) and a simple note tied with a ribbon.

My thoughts- This would make the perfect, Valentine's day, homemade only xmas, or just anytime gift for someone you love. I think anyone would appreciate it: a grandparent, parent, kid, spouse, etc. I also though it would be fun to fill it with a delicious scent. Maybe lavender?

Check out Moorea's website for more creative ideas.
I shared this idea with my old coworkers and they went with it. Using their school resources, I'm pretty sure they followed through with this idea the same day I sent it to them.
One of my closest coworkers even came up with this ADORABLE poem. Isn't she talented? It probably took her 5 seconds to think of it. She's one of those. :)
If you can't read the pictures which were sent to me, let me know and I'll add that to this post.

PS Does this count as following through with my 1st Pinterest crafty project? :)

bridal shower

Grace,
You and I went home to Chicago to celebrate your Aunt Libbie's happiness. She is getting married to Matt Weinheimer over Thanksgiving weekend. It just can't seem to get here soon enough. The entire family is counting down the days until the big day. The start of our visit home was her bridal shower and it ended with a bang...her bachelorette weekend. Her bridal shower was thrown by all of her aunts (your Grandma Patti's sisters). Grandma Patti helped out A LOT with the planning as well and it was worth it. It was a Tiffany's theme shower and every last detail was noticed and appreciated. From the invitation to the centerpieces. It was beautifully done. Enjoy!
Love, Mummy

Libbie with the hostesses.
Grandma Patti kept the theme in mind when she wrapped the presents. She even wrapped our for us! You gave your Godmother a beautiful crystal vase she had registered for and I pick up a few things from London. I found an English teapot, creamer and sugar bowl from Portobello Market and stuffed it with traditional English tea. I also brought her back a framed tile 'W' from Spain, which will be her new last name initial.
The favors were little white mints that looked like mini pearls. They reminded me of the ones from Maggianos and were placed inside cute little Tiffany's boxes. (below left)
The centerpieces were done by Monarch in Schererville. The flowers were added to the adorable boxes, which Grandma Patti bought from another bride-to-be who had the same theme. There were 4 to giveaway. They went to the person who was married the longest- Monte Novak. The winner of the he said/she said game- Cousin Jeryl Burke. And there was a birthday girl- Aunt Chris.
Jackie Clark (previously Yerga-Congratulations again!), one of Libbie's bridesmaids found the perfect gift from Lib's childhood. The cookie jar below was a staple item in the Thompson kitchen. Grandma Patti makes the best chocolate chip cookies and she tried her best to keep this jar full of them. Aunt Libbie and I would even try to eat the raw cookie dough. We just couldn't get enough. Everyone seems to say that about their own mother's cookies--I really need to start practicing...
As guests were finishing lunch, they were handed a multiple choice he said/she said game. Matt and Libbie were asked the same questions and guests had to pick what they thought were their responses. They kept it PG and it was fun hearing the answers. Susan did a great job going through each question between Libbie opening gifts. This was a smart way to keep everyone interested and involved. Great job, Mrs. Thompson.

Aunt Libbie felt so special because family surprised her and came in town for her shower. Grandma Neda (below center), Papa Ray, Aunt Terianne and Uncle Charlie drove down from Minnesota. Aunt Donita and Lauren (below left) drove up from Kentucky. They made the weekend that much more special and memorable. Thanks for driving all the way for Libbie's celebration.

Aren't they just the cutest?
