Dear Grace,
We took a family day trip to Stonehenge and Bath this past Sunday. Out of the few day trips we have taken so far, this has been our favorite. We took the Golden Tours bus which we would recommend to our family and friends. The bus picked us up close to our flat and the tour guide was well informed and extremely nice. It rained almost the entire drive to Bath, including part of the time we were outside checking out Stonehenge. We weren't able to open up the windows so it was a hot bus ride. As soon as we sat down the tour guide began by saying, "Welcome to your Golden Tour. We will be heading straight to Bath and then stopping at Stonehenge on our way back to London." Daddy and I looked at each other and temporarily freaked out. Being the organized planner he is, Daddy had called to make sure the tour was ending in Bath as their website advertises. This was an essential part of our trip since we were staying the night in Bath for our anniversary. Thank goodness I nudged Daddy and told him to walk to the front of the bus (past every other tourist since we were sitting in the very back row), and interrupt the tour guide to tell her our problem. She was lovely and the next thing you know, Daddy was walking past everyone on his way back to us as the lady said, "We have a slight change in plans." It was time to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride through England's countryside. Enjoy!
Love, Mummy
Fun Facts:
Stonehenge was constructed in three phases about 5,000 years ago.
It has been estimated that the three phases of the construction required more than thirty million hours of labor.
Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy. Was it a temple for sun worship, a healing center, a burial site or perhaps a huge calendar? How did people way back then manage to carry the mighty stones from so far away and then, using only the most primitive of tools, build this structure? Nobody will ever know for sure.
To be continued with our post from Bath...
