Corfu, Greece

Dear Grace,
Corfu, which is one of the most popular islands in Greece was our next destination on our cruise. It's known as "the green island" because of its 3 million olive trees and flower-strewn countryside. Its villages are filled with old taverns, new cafes, Byzantine churches, discos and shops. Plus, there are beautiful beaches and an Old city between two fortresses. Enjoy!

Love, Mummy and Daddy

Achileion Palace- The Empress Elizabeth of Austria built this palace in 1890. It is set in pretty gardens overlooking the sea.
The palace is dedicated to Greek hero, Achilles. Legends state that Achilles's body was invulnerable except for his heel. He died because of a small wound to his heel and the term, 'Achilles heel,' means a person's principal weakness.
We were fortunate to have a driver who loved his job. He explained so much about Corfu to us. He pulled over to the side of the road at the perfect place to take pictures out the window on our way to the Old fortress. He even slowed down the car to point out olive trees- explaining how they aren't ripe until they turn black. I tried questioning the reason why I love green olives, and due to our language barrier, I still don't have my answer.
I think this picture is a framer. Maybe for the cottage?
I spy a teeny tiny bicycle.
Next stop: Dubrovnik, Croatia
